But the question is vague so the answer may seen vague. Not much has changed over the years. We still use tools like AUTORUNS and HIJACKTHIS to remove the item.
But as folk become less adept at finding and using tools they tend to reload the OS instead. Not that that is a bad thing. We all backup today.
