Thanks for sharing that information, Bobbi. Every new thing we learn about vista is sure to help.
Well I am not sure if anyone will find this helpful but I know I was doing the dance of joy when I discovered this the other day.
I have had several of my devices denied by Vista because there was no driver available. I would select for it to search online and kept getting no where. Obviously I was getting frustrated with all of this rejection so I decided to invest some time into exploring exactly what was ON my PC as far as drives and then direct Vista to a few of them manually and see what happens. Well this paid off big time and I got all six rejected devices to work!!
Here is what I did: When the pop up comes up after you plug in a new device choose the option to manually search for drivers on your computer. Then browse through and go to C/Windows/System32/Driverstore Once you have selected that folder as the location then let Vista search for the correct one.
I'm telling you every single device I had a problem with is working now and it was so simple once I located this file. It's almost like there is a glitch with the searching that Vista does when you tell it to find a driver because they were all there. Good luck, I hope this helps somebody else!
