General discussion

A lesson we should take from the tragic events

Aug 13, 2017 11:35AM PDT

in Charlottesville, VA...IMO

If someone announces that the are going to display a public tantrum and gives the location, just stay away from the area and let them have their fit outside of the public eye. You media types...this goes for you as well. Keep your cameras home and don't display the tantrum for the whole world. This only makes matters worse and enables people who are already prone to violence show their anger in that fashion. Stay away and don't provoke these people. They want attention. Don't give it to them and these type of things will slowly disappear.

Keep your cameras home and don't display the tantrum for the whole world.

Perhaps just broadcast to America?....Everything is going smoothly in America?

Ignorance is bliss?

Yes, the planned rally was legitimate news. I haven't heard that the media did any inciting, and they belonged there.
IMO the attention-seekers will be happy enough having their own attention, so the solution doesn't lie there.

Some of these Leftist Hate Groups won't even show up UNTIL they know the cameras will be there.

Or, another lesson that applies to events

quote it or link it

If you made that a rule to follow, it sure would be better. Otherwise I suspect most won't even bother to look up what you wanted to say, but failed since you didn't quote or link it.

Many churches will tell you what the Bible says, often in the hope that you won't read it for yourself. And most do not, as you guessed, their way or our way. We encourage STUDY of the Bible. Offering an apposite thought from God's word, not man's, is not a failure - on our part.
So, you being the expert student that you are, won't you please tell us what you found there?

Just giving you some helpful advice on providing more effective discussion, especially when supporting your own viewpoints. If you wish to continue the ineffective approach,.....do so.

There's an idea. Soon as the violence starts....

....round up all media and remove them, arrest them if they resist, the send in the blue gang to take on both sides and clean the streets with them.

Yup

I don't agree with the white supremacist views but they had a permit to march.

That does not mean I have to watch, heckle or fight with them.

Let them march and wave their flag.

They'll be done in an hour or so and it's over.

Perhaps I'm too much of a moderate to let other views upset me.

Your reply is, IMO, a reasonable one

What we don't...and won't know, is the exact reason they were there or whether or not the "white supremacist" label fits them all. I suspect it does not and many might be there simply because they see part of their own heritage being removed. This does not mean, however, that they still support the idea of slavery. If you do some reading, you'll find that other cultures such as the Irish and Scots were also angered when the English Kings forbade the practice of some of their traditions. Messing with one's heritage, though it may contain some ugly warts, cannot be expected to be received well.
What is bothering me here is that it seems many people feel that the very presence of these right wing extremists is permission enough to launch an attack against them. Our president, like him or not, came under attack for even mentioning that blame for the violence was to be shared. I wholly believe him to be correct in that regard. To my knowledge, those who sought a permit for the rally did not send out an invitation to a rumble. That who came from far and wide with sticks, clubs and mace to block the march were the ones who lit the fuse. They are not, by any measure, innocent.
