a friend needs to convert vinyl to digital

by frankzxcv / February 6, 2004 2:57 PM PST

hi there--

I have a friend who recently bought a dell computer. She wants to convert a bunch of vinyl LP's to CD's. While I do this often on my PC, I don't know if her Dell has a program for recording, such as Creative wave studio.

We just reformatted and reinstalled winXP on her machine last month. I assume she has a sound card with a line in jack, but do dell computers have a program that will record incoming analogue to .wav files? and if not, are there any to download? She lives a ways a way so i am doing this advice over the phone. any advice? thanks - fj

After converting a horde of audio cassettes to WAV format, I discovered J. River Media Jukebox. It will record from the Line-in on her sound card and even split tracks automatically. It's free unless you want the plus version for $20. You can get it at http://www.musicex.com.
