Question

A decent document scanner

Feb 19, 2014 9:47PM PST

I work in a local law
firm and I need to purchase a decent scanner for the office.
<div>I'd like to ask about
the difference in quality between document scanners, that are just that, and
those all-in-one devices, that are a photocopier, printer and a scanner.

I heard from someone
that devices that act as just one device are more durable and of greater
quality than all-in-one devices (?!)</div><div>Is this true? And
should I consider that factor when purchasing an office scanner?</div><div>And, one more
question, which one would you choose for your office out of these three? Allegedly, they are the best in
their line of work Silly

Clarification Request
This could depend on the size of the documents

you need to scan. Most mainstream flatbeds handle slightly larger than standard letter size (8.5 X 11). If you need larger, you'll need a sheet feeder type or one with a larger bed. For some reason your link won't load for me this AM so I can't offer advice on those. For my own home use, I just use an Epson V600 which has no feeder but works fairly well with photos, negatives and slides as well as documents. I generally scan documents to PDF files at a resolution of about 600 dpi which is the max it allows. They turn out very nicely.

A stand alone scanner, IMOP, generally works out better than an ALL IN ONE, Steve Haninger mentioned the Epson, I tend to agree, UNLESS you go to a sheet feeder, such as a XEROX or something along those lines, effective but quite pricey. The Epson Perfection, the same or similar to what Steve mentioned is a really good unit and has several functions, including transparency (slides) I think that puppy would work and they don't cost and arm and two legs.
