A battery question...

Oct 17, 2004 2:34PM PDT

I have a relatively new Acer Travelmate but use it normally at home without battery power/Plugged in an outlet. Is it better to keep the battery in or does it matter? Thanks, Dan

In modern laptops, the battery will not overcharge. But its still "your choice" since the chemical battery will still degrade in about 2 years. You could slow the chemicals down by keeping the battery in a cool place, but that's about it.

Sorry for joining this thread, but I thought this as a single topic. so here it is:

Is it any difference in battery life, when I plug in the charger while its in less then full state (not empty)? I forgot the terminology for this ... a false state of power in the battery..

Someone said that I should emptied the battery, before charging to a full state.

I'm sorry again for this..

NiCAD = Yes.

NiMH and LiON = Not supposed to be a difference. But the old memory of NiCad dies hard. It's tough for people to forget that.

But the brutal truth is that ANYTHING we do will make a difference one way or the other, it's just that there is no paper I could point to have you read that NiMH/LiON would differ more than a percent point of "life" in the scenario that would kill off the old NiCADs.

We don't see many NiCADs today.
