There was also an old heritage 97X in Davenport. That's why I assumed it was the Rain Man. One. Zgood to know!
Tom referenced Rain Man in today's podcast. Part of the movie was filmed in the Cincinnati area. 97X (WOXY-FM) was a radio station in a college town called Oxford, just a little north of Cincinnati. It was usually good for a change of pace from regular commercial radio.
Alas, they ended their over-the-air broadcasts in May of 2004. They continue online at woxy.com. However, they're in danger of folding completely.
One of their old DJ's became program director of the station that took their place at 97.7. They got the 97X name and WOXY call letters while the previous owners kept the woxy.com Internet domain. It was fairly close in format to the local rock stations but would occasionally drift into some interesting, less-played music.
Unfortunately, this version of 97X only lasted until roughly May of 2005. 97.7 is now a DJ-less radio sation playing a wide variety of popular music. I think the format has been called the podcast-like format.

I have the signoff of the original 97X in mp3 format on one of my computers. It's the last 8 minutes or so.
