96 Jeep Grand Cherokee drag issue in 4 high

I have a 96 grand cherokee that has sat for two years. When in normal operation it should be in the 4high position on the transfer case selector lever. When in 4 high if i go to move ahead it seems as if there is a drag or load on the vehicle. When in reverse it seems fine. Also when in 4 lo as soon as i let off the brake it moves ahead as normal the problemn only seems to exist in 4 high and in forward gear. Any hints suggestions to self dianose the issue?
