they had some sort of municipal anniversary. They issued their own currency in the form of wooden nickels that you could buy and spend anywhere in the town at establishments that would take them. My thinking is that they hoped these would be purchased more as souvenirs and never be spent...thus enriching the town. People will save anything. Happy

I still got some Vegas coins in the $10 range, yeah I didn't spend, don't know why, but $30 bucks in the cabinet just sitting there. I understand any casino will honor them, but heck I don't gamble I came for the shows/entertainment and food. Wink -----Willy

..... they had what was called "script" that could be spent in the company store.

(I don't know how that worked. But I have a few pieces of the coinage they used. )

As the bank is considering checking and cards in that local currency, the scheme must be working in that community.
