Question

90 degree plug power strip

Oct 25, 2013 2:44AM PDT

Hello folks,

I recently noticed that I have too many chargers that have flat pins and then cover more than 2 plugs when plugged in. As a result, the regular 6 plug power strip that I have from Home Depot, can be used for only 2 plugs.

I wonder if anyone knows relatively cheap 90 degree angled plug power strip. The cheapest I could find is this one. The one I have from Home Depot is $4 each or something.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. - Just in case anyone knows, why the direction of plugs is as it is by default, when the manufacturer/designer also knows/understands, this is the problem?)

Sorry but why not add a 4 buck bar?

If my current bar is full then surely I could add a 4 buck bar to hold a few more chargers. Surely you are not trying to get more than a handful of chargers in one bar?

The outlets on $4 power strip from Home Depot are not 90 degree plugs so on a strip with 6 outlets, I can fit only 3 at a time. Since these are either mobile phone or tablet chargers, I think the strip is not overloaded.

I was thinking on the same line

I have ordered

http://www.amazon.com/AMXOVSPLUG-1-Foot-Extension-Power-5-Pack/dp/B000CRFOMK

but with the multiple USB port, I am not too sure how to go with it. I am not an electrical engineer, neither do I understand anything more than basic. So I was wondering, if I use USB hub, how much current each port will deliver. Laptop USB provides 500mA of current. My HTC One X charger is 1A and DW's Motorola is 800mA, iPad is 2.1A, nook HD+ should be above 1A, Xoom does not have USB charging so its out. I am not too sure if I can fit all of these on one USB Hub. Do you have any pointer here?

There are powered USB hubs on amazon. I am just not too sure if there are any USB hubs that provide different amount of current for various devices. iPad is the only culprit, phones charge on trickling current.

Regarding multiple USB port chargers.

I was going to supply a link to them but they were in the 20+ dollar category and I got the feeling this was more than you wanted to expend. Maybe some USB hub would work but it would have to be a powered hub along with other criteria. For low power things like a non-smartphone I think any old powered hub would be fine.

iPad however would want it's own charger.

Found one

Ideally, would have preferred cheaper but $20 is fine. Its one time investment and hoping that it will last a while.

http://www.amazon.com/RELEASE-Family-Sized-Charger-Samsung-Devices/dp/B00DVH62J2 is perfect. Nook is 2A and I think, it should be fine with iPad charger port. I noticed that even if you use high output charger, these android (because I tested android phones and tablets) devices do not let the current go beyond a certain range.
(It has 18-month warranty, I am sold..)

Did you mean the same? Would love to see the link.

Thanks in advance.

That's one of them.

The liberators seemed cheaper and the posts seemed to tell me it wasn't an option at over 10 bucks. But you found one and the Amazon reviews are kind.

If Frys opens a store in NY. The shipping is $6, defeats the purpose. The one from Amazon is cheaper for me..
