8mm to DVD question from a novice

by carl2171 / August 21, 2007 12:38 PM PDT

I have many 8mm video tapes and my camcorder is shot. Rather than invest in a new one, I thought I might get a used one that has an output for connecting to my computer to transfer the tapes to DVD. Can anyone recommend a unit that will do that? I have looked at a SONY HANDYCAM CCD-TR65 8mm on eBay. Are there others out there that would suit my purpose? Thanks!

I don't see a firewire connection on that model.

It may be better to hunt down a TRV480 instead. Otherwise you'll have to digitize the video.

Thanks! Any others you can recommend?

I'm pretty new at video, but with some computer experience. If there are other 8mm's with firewire connection, I'd love to hear about them.

But I'm getting on a plane in a few so use and ask it...

8mm camcorder with firewire.

Cnet's Camcorder reviews may have a product selector but you may be looking at the used market which is why I noted the trv480.
