82.3GB HD Not Full Capacity

Apr 27, 2004 9:52AM PDT

Hi I have a 82.3 GB Deskstar HD works great, but it only shows up at

Drive C:
Description Local Fixed Disk
Compressed No
File System FAT
Size 2.00 GB (2,146,467,840 bytes)
Free Space 464.91 MB (487,489,536 bytes)
Volume Name MS-DOS_6
Volume Serial Number 30356E5A

Now I have charged settings in bios to different settings and nothing has
changed, however it does at bootup the (Primary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable
installed)= what does this mean? the cable is just for 1 HD I did that because
I didn't think I needed 2 HD's on here, and how can I get full diskspace on new pc, oh I have set
the settings in HD in bios Auto that's the only setting it will take to boot up fully

someone gave me 6 bootup windowsxp floppy instead of installing Wins98SE, windowsMe, then
WinsXP which I have on a 30GB HD and with that one I have more room to last or is this what
I should do instead, I could I wouldn't lose nothing on files etc

OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Version 5.1.2600 Build 2600

New Motherboard

System Manufacturer INTELR
System Model AWRDACPI
System Type X86-based PC
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 6 Stepping 3 CentaurHauls ~601 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date Award Software International, Inc. 6.00 PG, 2/23/2001
SMBIOS Version 2.2

Boot Device \Device\HarddiskVolume1

Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "5.1.2600.0 (xpclient.010817-1148)"

thanks for helping, all of you are just great with all
helping and links thanks again

2 GB is what you would get if you used FDISK and answered no to LARGE DISK SUPPORT.

More than we all need to know about fdisk?

Do what R. Proffitt says first. You might also want to check the settings on your hard drive itself. There are some jumpers on the hard drive which can cause your hard drive to show up as less that it really is. Adjust them to make sure you get full capacity. This has happened to me before too.
