802.11 b, or g getting best coverage for your $?

May 9, 2005 1:44PM PDT

Okay I have a 18 hole golfcourse that I'm being asked to give wi-fi coverage too. I know that the 802.11 B would most likely be my best choice when looking for over all coverage because it's not as effected by line of sight interference. And I also know that 802.11 G will give me the best through put at just short of 54 mbs. I thought about adding some amplifiers, but I read that this does slow the wireless network down, by placing a new header everytime it retransmittes the signal. So now 54 mbs turns in to 27 mbs and so on and so on. Also I could put up towers all over the place at a price. But I'm not so sure they would go for alot of extra cost at this point. So whats my other choices here? I'm pretty new to wireless and need some input on this. They only want it to be available to club members. And I'm thinking of using the PublicIP software to support authetication. Any Idea's on this guys?
