8 people shot on the Poncha(sp) River bridge in NO

by TONI H / September 4, 2005 7:32 AM PDT

CNN just reported it...no link yet so I don't know if they were shot by police or military, but it was reported they were all carrying/brandishing guns that they wouldn't put down.

...is saying the people on the bridge were contractors.

A lot more detail and fact is needed on this one.

Hadn't heard that a "shoot to kill on sight' order was in effect.

"Three hundred of the Arkansas National Guard have landed in the city of New Orleans," Ms Blanco said.

"These troops are fresh back from Iraq, well trained, experienced, battle-tested and under my orders to restore order in the streets.

"They have M-16s and they are locked and loaded.

"These troops know how to shoot and kill and they are more than willing to do so if necessary and I expect they will."

The contractors were shot at and police KILLED the shooters.

Notice how they are explaining that this is what AP is reporting, and warning people that rumors are flying and it's best to bear in mind that answers to what really happened are being sought.

I keep remembering...
by J. Vega / September 4, 2005 8:50 AM PDT

I keep remembering how it was at CNN in the Ted Turner days. Someboby would come up with something, some people wanted to put it on the air, and the yell would ring out over the Assignment Desk, "Has it been CONFIRMED yet?". If it hadn't, it didn't make air.
All Fox is doing is exactly what CNN did in the past, continuous rapid-fire live switching here and there while not forgetting that rumors will fly and it's best to confirm. Until you confirm, it's best to advise that it is not yet confirmed, and the situation may change.

In general all say:

At least five fatally shot by police on New Orleans bridge

The Associated Press

NEW ORLEANS ? Police shot and killed some gunmen who had fired upon a group of contractors traveling across a city bridge on Sunday on their way to make repairs.

New Orleans Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said police shot at eight people, killing five or six.

John Hall, a spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers, said there were 14 contractors on their way to repair a canal. They were traveling across a bridge under police escort when they were fired upon.

They were on their way to launch barges into Lake Pontchartrain to fix the 17th Street Canal, Hall said.

The shootings took place on the Danziger Bridge, which spans a canal connecting Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
