8.04 - No Sound

Aug 31, 2009 4:16AM PDT

I've been using linux for more than 6 months now with no major problems up until a few weeks ago. I installed some of the automatic updates and BAM (well not really bam, because I couldn't hear it..) I lost all sound. It's as if linux is perpetually on mute, except it says it's on full volume. Everything else seems to be working fine.

I've got the same problem, except, I've never had sound to begin with. When the MB sound didn't work I installed an old sound card. Still no sound.
Any ideas??

Use 8.04 too? Try 9.04, even 9.10 (alpha/beta testing only still) if new versions will net help post here your sound card model.

hmm

This should not happen with good updates. Basically you have to go https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs and add new bug with card model and date (wgat you updates even better) when sound was gone.

thanks, I just reinstalled it and upgraded to 8.10. It seems to work fine, and once 9.10 beta arrives I'll try that, or if the current 8.10 seems to work fine I'll wait until 9.10 final release. Anyway I plan on upgrading pretty soon. Thanks for the help!
