General discussion

7SAEABBP.EXE-24c91CD1.pf Is it a virus ???????

Nov 2, 2008 4:41AM PST

I keep having iexplore pop up [ several at a time] when looking at task manager when I have no windows open . It opens iexplore.exe [ 3 or 4 at a time, no windows are open ] and ctfmon.exe . 7sAeaBbP.exe is in the task manager and when I close it the iexplore and ctfmon stop appearing. 7SAEABBP.EXE-24c91CD1.pf is in the prefetch folder and keeps reappearing when I delete it after startup. AVG and spybot do not detect any virus. IS it a virus that is somehow masked and any idea on how to get rid of it for good. It keeps making internet explorer and firefox crash when it opens the iexplore [ even games crash from it ].
Thanks for any help

Can't find anything about it.

Give the following a try:

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware or alternate download link

* Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
* Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
* When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
* When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
* - Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* - Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
* Then click Finish.
* MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
* If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.

* On the Scanner tab:
* - Make sure the "Perform Quick Acan" option is selected.
* - Then click on the Scan button.
* The next screen will ask you to select the drives to scan. Leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
* The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
* When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
* Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
* Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
* The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

* -- Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

**If you encounter this message:"c:\program files\malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll Unable to register the dll/ocx: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x5" Click on ignore mbamext.dll

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users

* Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
* An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
* If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
* Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
* Click the Scanning Control tab.
* Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):

Close browsers before scanning.
Scan for tracking cookies.
Terminate memory threats before quarantining.

* Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
* Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
* On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
* On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
* Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
* After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
* Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
* A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
* If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".

The .pf File Is Created By Windows When...
Nov 2, 2008 11:12AM PST

...the "7sAeaBbP.exe" program runs.. The Prefetch folder is designed to help speed up loading of Windows XP.. As such, when an executable file runs at startup, a .pf file is created so the .exe file loads quicker the next time..

That said, I would certainly guess that "7sAeaBbP.exe" is malware. It appears to be a trojan. Run the tools Marianna suggested to attempt to remove it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks but...........

Thanks for the help! ! !
I did what you said and it got rid of around 9 things with Malwarebytes. During the scans AVG warnings would pop up with .exes close to the names of the files being scanned by the programs reccomended.
They were trojan horse clickers in the form of .TQR and .SXT files. I pressed remove as a power user in AVG for all of them.
When everything was finished and the computer rebooted all was fine. Then about 30 mins into use, AVG started popping up trojan clicker warnings again. They seem to be coming from local settings/temp folder, system 32, system volume information/restore and windows/temp.

I would suggest.......

Download and install CCleaner:

CCleaner: Quick Install- & Cleaning-guide

http://www.jahewi.nl/ccleaner/quick/quick.html

It is normal, the infections are also seen in your System volume information/restore folder will get to that later, as your computer is clean.

After you are done with CCleaner - run MBAM again.

Does it now come up clean?

Temporarily Disabled System Restore Yet?
Nov 3, 2008 7:47AM PST

RIGHT click on "My Computer", choose "Properties", then click on the "System Sestore" tab... When that loads, place a CHECK mark in "Turn Off System Restore", then click on "apply", then OK and restart the computer.. Boot to Safe Mode during the restart and run a full system scan with ALL the tools you've used previously while in Safe Mode.

When the computer finally comes up clean, you can re-enable System Restore by UNCHECKING the box mentioned earlier.

Hope this helps.

Safe Mode test
Nov 4, 2008 1:34AM PST

I meant I had been using Ccleaner during the previous program runs you told me to do.

Did the Safe Mode thing. The programs found nothing. Rebooted, rechecked system restore and around 10 mins later the trojan clicker warning from AVG came up again.

Yep
Nov 5, 2008 12:05AM PST

Yes, I unchecked system restore then went to safe mode. Scanned everything and nothing came up. Rebooted normally then turned system restore back on. Now for some reason AVG isn't detecting the clickers anymore like in the beginning. Sorry to be such a pest.
