720p or 1080p for HD Broadcast?

Aug 23, 2008 8:12AM PDT

Hello, I am considering in buying a hdtv either the Panny 720p-th42x80u or the 1080p-th42pz80u. My question is, how well will my Directv hd look on either set, for picture quality and details at sitting 9ft away? Will the 1080p give better detail upconverting the 1080i, compared to the 720p downconverting it? Would appreciate any kind help on this, Thanks!

The most limiting factor is the relatively small size of

the TV set. Sure, typical viewing distance is also part of the equation. The difference in detailing becomes much more apparent at very large sizes, typically over 50 inches. Hard to see any appreciable difference with a 42 incher. Now, if you were getting a really huge screen size.

PX80 vs PZ80

the panasonic PZ80 is a better TV then the PX80 because it has a better contrast and color accuracy, not because it say 1080p on the Tag.

so is the PZ80 worth the money? yes just not for resolution alone.

good luck
