64 bit XP PRO & VISTA

by seylen / March 11, 2007 1:25 AM PST

I have a XP PRO 64bit OS that hasn't been installed yet on a new unit build. All the hardware-everything except the case-is new. There should not be a problem with that stuff. This is a software question. I had an idea of installing the OS amd then get a VISTA upgrade and go from there. Am I too premature on this? Should I wait until some more of the bugs are taken out of VISTA? Or just wait for VISTA to come around and be a solid platform. I have been reading the pros and cons on VISTA and there seems to be a lot of cons to VISTA form e to jump on it too soon. Grave remembrances of XP upgrades when it first came out and the mess it made of computers-mine included.

I'm finding people with self made machines to be the worst candidates for Vista unless they are willing to change out any or all components if Vista asks them to.

you're probably going to have as many issues with xp 64bit as vista 32bit. if you don't have specific 64bit apps that you need to run, i recommend you go straight to vista. issues with vista will be corrected by vendors quicker than issues under xp 64bit.

if you have 64bit apps, you should post your question to forums dedicated to those apps and get feedback from folks who have run under xp and vista 64bit.

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
