60" DLP hum Turns off and no picture

by RobONO / July 8, 2010 1:45 PM PDT

I was watching the TV today and all of a sudden the picture started strobing in B/W. There was a low pitched pulsing hum. I powered off the TV and vacuumed out the lamp area. Thinking the lamp was bad I checked continutity and got an open, most lamps have some sort of resitance but not sure on this lamp.

In turning the TV back on it responds to the remote, the lamp is out and does not try to turn on. the hum goes for about 3 minutes then everything turns off. The front LEDS start flashing the red and both greens like a smiley face needing service.

The TV is about 4 years old and knowing the history of the color wheel and the symptoms I am not sure here either.

Other posts and answers also point to the chip as well.

I would really hate to start shotgunning the components that would get $$$$$.
