6 ohm vs 8 ohm speaker compatibility

Dec 24, 2004 4:43AM PST

I am in the market for wall and ceiling speakers. I am looking at Niles HDLRS wall speakers. They are 6 ohm speakers, the rear speakers on my home theater are 8 ohm. My reciever will accomidate 4 or 8 ohm. My reciever is a Yamaha RXV 2200 (can't find my manual)

I don't want to take the sales persons word that this is an acceptable combination. I have been searching for an artical that explains ohms in relation to speaker selection. Any input appreciated.

ohms is resistence. Less then 8, like the 6 ohms speakers will overdrive your amp when amp is set to 8 ohms.
