General discussion

5400 vs 7200 rpm

Dec 2, 2009 4:37AM PST

Which should i look for, 5400 or 7200 rpm (probably look for 500 GB)is the difference in performance enough to justify the price.

A little back-up info, i need a laptop for solidworks, autocad and some gaming(it doesnt need to play the newest games on high)

Skip the 500GB, pull back to 320GB and go 7200RPM.

with a 500 gig 5400 RPM drive and when Windows 7 came out the now have basically the same laptop with a 500 gig 7200 RPM and the new I6 processor for the same price. Something to look at with drive sizes. My Hp has a 500 gig HD and the partitian created by HP is 453 for my C drive and the D drive for recovery has 12.5 gig with 2 gig free because of the recovery files. My Acer has 320 gig with 2 160's and the second drive is almost full with system recovery files. So in reality I only have 160 gig.
