Here's where I found 1G to pay.

Battlefield 2, Doom 3 (and up). It's rare to find much else that pays off except BRAGGING RIGHTS.

It depends on what you are doing with it

I have a zv6000 with 1GB of memory and am glad I got it. I do game some however. It will help if you game otherwise probably not necessarily worth it. Remember, of course that you can always upgrade memory later if you need to. The zv6000 can be upgraded to 2GB. It is often cheaper as well to buy memory after purchase and install it yourself. Also, remember if you do get 512 memory I would recommend going with the 512 in one slot rather than 2 256 sticks. This way, they will go ahead and put the 512 in the harder to get to slot underneath the keyboard and leave open the easier to access slot on the bottom side of the laptop. This way you could purchase 512 now and when you want to upgrade with a 1GB stick and have 1.5GB. Also, have you considered getting a Compaq R4000. This is basically a twin of the zv6000. The only difference is the exterior looks of it. The Compaq R4000 can often be gotten for anywhere from $100-$200 cheaper depending on where you buy it. I know from HPShopping.com you can definitely get a compaqR4000 cheaper. Oh yeah, there is one other slight difference in the R4000 from the zv6000. The R4000 does not have an infrared port and the zv6000 does. This will not matter unless you plan to get the remote control to aid in watching DVD's. Anyway, good luck with your purchase. Also, check out www.zv6000forums.com for some great information about the zv6000 and the R4000.

You can get an hp zv6000 pretty well spec'd out for around $950 from HPShopping.com. You could probably get its twin, the Compaq R4000 for around $850.00 from HPShopping.com. Also, Office Depot often has great deals on these machines. I have heard of people getting one for around $699.00 and this is with some upgrades. These are great laptops and a lot of bang for the buck. You can find better laptops but for the money I have not seen any better. The biggest limitation of this laptop in my opinion is the integrated GPU, the ATI Radeon Xpress 200M. This is the best Integrated card out there right now for laptops but if you are wanting this for gaming it will not work too well for the latest releases. Most games I have played on mine do work but all the games I have are at least one year old. Anyway, if you are just playing older games or do not game you can't go wrong with this laptop.

1G if you're gaming.

Otherwise, save your money or spend it on something else. 512 should handle the music and surf easily.
