I am planning on buying a 500gb external hard drive to be used for capturing dv video for editing (what I have in mind now is the lacie brick, western digital premium or seagate external)... what might be the best for the job? thanks...

I'm very sorry but I forgot to mention that I won't be just working on one pc... I may need to edit on other locations (in school or other faster pc's) not just at home...
While USB 2.0 is the next selection for PC use (firewire is not always available or reliable) USB 2.0 is about 1/3 the speed of SATA. For video work you may find it best to copy in your file, work on it on the fast drive and then copy it out.
