5 Important Tips to tackle Cloud Privacy issue

May 2, 2017 4:56AM PDT

With the emergence ofCloud Computing, most of the IT users get rid with the concern of Data Loss issues, but at the same time, a next big question strikes their minds yelling – to what extent does the data stored on Cloud platform is safe and secure? They are really worried about their privacy and personal information stored on the cloud.

Just in a few years, CLOUD has emerged as the bastion of data security, and today, every cloud provider is offering services with high security features, endeavoring to preserve trust and reliability in the market.

Though, there exists various high-end security measures, the frequency of cyber attacks in the recent times have grown enormously, and have alarmed the global market. Cyber security experts and IT professionals are working collectively to design advanced security techniques and patterns to overcome such security breaches in near future.

This article accordingly will state a couple of things that will help many users to secure the data stored in the cloud, from any unauthorized access.

1. Use Strong Passwords

Generally, we lock all the doors of our homes at night to prevent any intruder entering our homes. The same way to secure the data, it is required to use strong passwords to all the accounts, which are difficult to hack and crack. Because the rapid advancement in technology has made the passwords easily hackable. According to a market telecommunication report, 90% of passwords can be cracked in seconds. It is therefore recommended to use strong passwords (combinations of alphabets, numbers, & special characters) for ensuring better data security.

2. Use Random Security Questions

To provide confidentiality, many businesses today require next level encryption methods while creating new user accounts; these usually come in the form of security questions. Choosing the pre-defined security questions, and entering right answers may sometimes seem to be agony, but it is recommended to understand its significance in maintaining the confidentiality of the data and user.

3. Two-Step Verification

It is also known as Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), is a procedure where the online portal sends a Unique Identification Code to the registered mobile number, which the user is required to enter to access the account. This is an additional step for data security, which most of the cloud service providers have made compulsory, while some of them have made it optional.

4. Encrypt Important Files

Encryption so far is the best practice available for securing the critical data. The encryption software makes it mandatory to input the password each time when you try to access the files stored on the cloud platform. Today, there are different encryption software available in the market, but one of the highly preferred is B1 Free Achiever. It zips the files only in B1 format, making the data security more reliable.

5. Keep Sensitive Data out of Cloud

Though cloud is known to be the great medium to store and share data but to be honest, no cloud storage is fail-proof. It is highly advisable to do not store any sensitive information, such as passwords, bank account details, debit/credit cards pin numbers etc. on the cloud. However, if it is required, then make sure to encrypt the information before moving it to the cloud.

What is the emergence?

The cloud is over a decade old. Depending on your view, over 3 decades so emerging is not what I'd call this.

Growing importance

Yes, I accept the fact that cloud is decades old concept but with the importance of cloud growing in the technical aspect, this article was written in that view.

Thanks for your suggestion.

It was not a concept 2 decades ago.

The name changed is all I see. You have a bunch of folk shining up an old thing and slapping a new label on this. It's not that new.
