Question

5.1 suround sound

Aug 31, 2013 11:19AM PDT

i have a blueray home cinema system model No hb905pa
connected to this i have samsung tv with hd tuner and also a humax hd satellite receiver both are connected via optical cables. my problem is when tuned into a hd channel showing 5.1 signal if i set the lg home cinema to bypass for multi channel signals i only get sound through 2.1 speakers. if i use the other settings eg pll movie i get 5.1 produced from a 2 channel source. my question is why am i not getting multichannel sound through the optical.or am i missing something. ps i set the sound from tv to dolby digital not pcm.

True.

If the source is HDMI, the HDCP rule book writes passthrough SHALL be stereo.

There's nothing busted here as it's obeying the HDCP rules. If I mis-read this and you are on OTA then there is NO PASS THROUGH and here it does give me 5.1 when OTA channels have that.
