Question

4K Upscaling Blue-Ray Players

by Gonzatho00 / December 1, 2015 10:13 AM PST

I was wondering what is the point of getting a 4K Upscaling Blue-Ray player if the the T.V can already upscale 1080p content to near 4K. I'm going to be getting a 4K tv so I just want to know if I should get a that Blue-Ray or keep my old one.

Here's the thing about scalers

Quite often, one performs better than the other. Sometimes, the built in works/looks better, but other times, it's the input device (player) doing the better job. YMMV. Some trial and error involved, especially regarding specific content, etc.

Some arguably, higher end/high budget folks opt for a completely separate scaler (outside of the player even).

Why not just give it a test.

play a BR disc, does it look like it's been upscaled? But then again one of these day there maybe 4k BR contents that you want to play. So the player would come in handy. If everything looks good enough now, why not just wait.

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
