Answer
The usual.

1. Be sure the connect to the UHD player is on HDMI 2.x ports.
2. Try the maker's latest firmware (due to the issues of installation possible errors, LG must document how to install.)
3. Try a factory reset.

All connected to the correct ports. Ive tried factory reboot no joy. Uhd has worked before

That leaves item 2

And the warranty and a call to LG.

Be aware you left out details such as model numbers of all parts, UHD source information and such.

Some get upset when a 4K UHD movie they downloaded from a pirate web page doesn't work. Hard to get support for that.

I recorded programmes and films off sky tv they have all worked before but know when I try and play them it says you need a uhd tv which I have

Another example of support issues.

I don't see full details but many cable TV boxes only allow play on the exact setup the recording was made on.

-> Time to talk to the support folk that made that player.

I respect your privacy. I will not demand you supply model numbers but without them and a full story I think I've done as much as I can.
