Try changing the bluray player (can't see which one here) audio settings. Try PCM, Stereo, 5.1, DD+ (all to see if one fires it up.)

My bet is HDCP 2.2 killed it. Here's a passage on that.

"you will probably want to ensure that the HDMI 4 input can take a conventional HD input by altering the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) setting from its default of 2.2 to 1.4,"

http://www.cnet.com/news/hdcp-2-2-what-you-need-to-know/ tells more.

Frankly I would not bother with port 4 since you are not sending it 4K content. Let that open for your future players.

Hi bob tried changing hdcp but only altered picture so left it on auto. You say that you would not bother with port 4 but if i bought a 4k upscaler would i not need that port ?

Only for 4K sources.

We know the HDCP changes will cause troubles like this. I didn't find your 4K player model in this discussion.

The set will upconvert to 4K since it must fill all the pixels but I fear I didn't help you here. That is, I expect a lot of prior to HDCP 2.2 gear to not work on that port. Because of the changes I admit I can't fix that.

If that's a killer blow to the deal, make that call fast so you can get your refund.

Sure.

http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/BDP-S490 shows a Full HD (that's 1080p) so I would be guessing why you must use the 4K HDMI port. The set will upconvert to fill the pixels on all ports.

Again, there will be a lot of pre-2.2 devices that won't work on HDMI port 4. I found it strange the industry dared to move to production with that flaw.
