Why? Because most companies are only covering the warranty if you get the one in your country. The model numbers can indicate the country it is in. As more sets become "smart" a dumb thing they do is program them to the region they are sold in. Well, I call it dumb but there are good reasons for that.

I see language differences in menus and such. The "smart TV" can be region locked so be sure you can get your money back if you get it and it's locked to the wrong region.
