Question

42LF652V found sat channels, but cannot watch them

Sep 19, 2015 12:55PM PDT

Friends,

I have just bought this set. Everything is just fine, and I was able to smoothly tune to both DVB terrestrial and my Hotbird dish. I can see that plenty of channels is availabe. Now, typing a channel number on remote allows me to watch only the DVB content.
Satellite channels are there, but I cannot access them. If I type a channel number of a definitively free-to-air satellite channel, nothing appears on the screen. I carefully scanned all the menus and read all the guides, but to no avail. Pressing on the "next channel" button leads to a jump from one DVB chan to another, even if there is a sat channel in between.

Sorry for the stupid question, but is there anything else that has to be configured that I missed?

Thanks a lot ahead for any comment!
Andy.

Answer
I fear you have to get back to your Hotbird provider.

Unfortunately that's not my case..

Thanks for your comment, but the issue is of a different nature. I have bought
the LG TV set in replacement of my old Samsung and a sat decoder. All free
HotBird channels were accessible. I have then simply disconnected the sat
cable from the old decoder and plugged it into the new LG. Then I tuned both
DVB and sat, and all the free sat channels were found, along with DVB.

The problem is, I cannot access *any* satellite channel via my remote. For
instance, the always-worked Euronews channel has got some number after
scan, but, if I select it with remote, nothing happens on the screen, as if the
channel does not exist at all. But I khow that it is there and must be working well..

There should be some explanation of what's going on..

Not much found about it.

Back to Hotbird and the TV maker to sort out. I'm a big fan of returning products that makers don't support.

Possibly need to switch inputs?

Not sure about this but it's possible you may be required to switch inputs before you can watch the satellite chans.?

SOLVED - everything works as it should

Hello, in fact this was a non-issue as I had in fact to switch inputs between DVB
and Sat. My mistake was due to the latency of Live Menu (pressing a button on
remote did not show it up on the screen until after a couple of seconds, and it
looked as if it did not work, and I never explored it properly).

Switching between inputs is in fact quite clumsy: one first have to go to the Live
Menu, then wait until it finally opens, then press a red button, then scroll to Sat
and finally press OK. In total, 4-5 operations and a wait in-between. I have managed
to make a shortcut by saving a mix of Sat and DVB channels in a grey submenu that
pops up, among others, when the Home button is pressed. But still it is far away
from being a 1-click solution..

Shortcut info?

Can you expand a little on the shortcut method?
I have the 32LB580V-ZM and I also find switching between inputs to be very long-winded and cumbersome so a little more info on that shortcut method that you have devised would be helpful.!

I've used the so-called "My Programmes" option. When the "Home" button is pressed on remote, you have a sort of a menu in the bottom of your screen, with buttons slightly inclined to the right. One of this buttons is called "My Programmes". You first would want to move it to the leftmost position, right after the LG apps (select it, click "UP", then "LEFT" as many times as you need. Then add a couple of Sat and DVB channels (I believe, you may have at most 8 of them).
Now, to switch between the Sat and DVB: go to "Home", "My Programs" and select one of the Sat of DVB channels and this does the trick. Furthermore, once in Sat, use the Sat favorites, and do the same fir DVB. Not Ideal, but still a bit faster compared to the "Live Menu". To further speed the things up, you may consider buying a futuristic LG remote with the mouse pointer (mine is called AN-MR600, it costed me 33 Euros). It allows to move faster between menus.

Still, I can't see why LG simply did not add Sat to the list of inputs that pops up when one presses the "Source" button..
