I was considereing doing something much like what you're describing. But after more thought I decided against trying to support the wieght of the plasma on the mantel itself and somehow anchoring the stand to it. The table stand should have a couple sets of screw holes and I'm sure that a creative do it yourselfer could find a way to make it work. But, there's really no need to rig something up like this. Why not just get a good wall mount, set it up and call it a day? If you're hesitating to get a wall mount because of the cost you may end up paying more in the long run if the plasma comes crashing down. Shop around some and you'll find a good price on a mount. I have a Peerless universal. And I saw it going for $100 at Costco. Good luck
Is it smart to use the table stand and place a 42 Inch plasma on a mantel above a small gas fireplace? I'm not concerned about heat, the fireplace is very small, mostly for show. Is there a way to anchor the stand? Do table stands have screw holes?
