40B7020 directly connected to Buffalo LinkStation

I have a Buffalo LinkStation NAS 500Gb device connected on my home network. On this same network I have a new shiney LED TV from Samsung, UE40B7020. I do not know the firmware version - its straight from the box.

On my NAS I have folders that contain quite a bit of music and photos that other computers on the same network can see and use.

The new shiney Samsung TV can see the LinkStation in the Media Player and shows Music, Photos and Movies folders, but these are not the folders on the LinkStation.

Is it possible to have this setup or am I missing something?

Thanks for your help,
Marcus.

podicus,

The media player included with the LinkStation may or may not be compatible with the TV. I don't have a definitive list, nor do I have the ability to test various NAS devices.

You might try downloading the PC Share Manager software from the Samsung.com/support website. Type your model number in, and the latest version of the software will be available by the manuals and firmware updates.

Media folders

The folders that display on the TV are those created by the indexing application, which is part of the media server software, which may be TwonkyMedia on the Linkstation. Typically, a server will index metadata such as album title, artist, etc. so that the TV or other device can browse by these options - this is more convenient where the media files are distributed over a range of folders (or even drives).

The TV may display a "Folders" index that allows browsing by folder, but that depends on the server. The Samsung-supplied PC server has that option.
