40a450 HDMI Audio Issues

by 96streetsam / December 21, 2008 5:27 AM PST

Hey all. So my Time Warner cable is hooked up to the TV via HDMI, and the adio stopped coming in. Video is still gorgeous, but Audio is out. Audio on works fine if I change hook-up to 3-wire component plus 2-wire audio, but when switch back to HDMI the Audio doesnt work. Ive read posts that Smasung has HDMI Audio issues - any help on this one? Right now I have the cable box video run through to the TV via the HDMI, and the audio directly into my receiver via fiber optic, so my experience is fine. But I want to know that my HDMI connections are okay if I ever buy another piece of HDMI-compatible equipment.

Firmware....
by Samsung_HD_Tech Samsung staff / December 21, 2008 8:42 AM PST

96streetsam,

Welcome to the forum.

There has been a firmware update that addresses audio drop out issues, but I haven't heard of audio not working at all. Regardless, here is a link to the latest firmware, and maybe it's worth giving a shot.

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/download/supportDown.do?group=televisions&type=televisions&subtype=lcdtv&model_nm=LN40A450C1D&language=&cate_type=all&dType=D&mType=FM&vType=L&prd_ia_cd=02010100&disp_nm=LN40A450

There also may be an audio setting in your TW box that sends the signal out via HDMI, which might explain why it works with component, but not HDMI. Perhaps it's a simple setting that your cable operator can walk you through.

Just a few ideas here, but keep me posted.

I have tried all cable box settings, including HDMI. I dont think its the cable box - and I dont think its the HDMI cable - the video HDMI is working perfectly. The HDMI Audio was working and then it suddenly stopped. Yes, I could ask Time Warner to change my box, and I could spend $$ on a new HDMI cable, but I dont think that will do anything. Let me try the firmware and see what happens.
