4 Firefox 3.0.10- firefox addon 4 reading foreign languages?

by stick joe / July 21, 2009 4:01 AM PDT

I have Firefox 3.0.10 and wonder if anyone has some good recommendations for a good firefox add-on that would enable me to translate webpages from their language to English (and can translate as many languages as possible- though I have no specific languages in mind).

What kind of add on I have in mind is something that'll work right on the page I'm on at the time rather than it just linking me to some online translator like Google (because I can simply link to one myself and don't need an add on to do this, if I wanted that option).

Hopefully I've included everything I'd like. If I've left something you and anyone needs more info, let me know & I'll post it in this thread.

Thanks for any help.

P.S. With Vista, I can type some foreign languages, like this :
יקךךםץ Wישא,ד מק'???
So, I'll have it made if I can translate text on webpages too.

Also if possible (unless one doesn't exist), I'd like to be able to translate pages that are SSL and https.

There are extensions where you can click a button and have the page processed by web services such as Google's, but there are no extensions that can simply translate a page by themselves.

-> Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, et cetera have spent millions of dollars and nearly a decade on imperfect translators. Extension developers do not have those resources.

In reply to: No...

I haven't made myself clear.

I don't care if the addon processes through Google or whatever. I just don't want it being this :

a button which when it's clicked goes to Googles translation page where I then have to paste in the text or webpage url to get it translated.

The above steps would be the same as if I just opened another tab and hit my Google translator link bookmark, then when I arrive there I paste in the text or url to translate.

Hope this helps.
