$378 laptop @ Wal-Mart!

Nov 21, 2005 8:04AM PST

If you haven't already mentioned this, I saw a commercial for the rumoured $400 laptop, and it's true (and cheaper). It was an HP by the way

Sorry, but I forgot this info, that could be found at the bottom of the advertisement: Only from 5-11am in the continental U.S.. (that means that all you techies in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico have to get your good s somewhere else!)

Maybe someone will buy this for me for Christmas! Then all I would have to do is buy some extra RAM!

$2 laptop from walmart
Nov 22, 2005 4:10AM PST

Not really, but I wouldn't go to walmart for a free laptop. Check out http://www.walmartmovie.com/ and go to a free screening! Like Molly I try to be an ethical shopper.

Interesting
Nov 22, 2005 11:08PM PST

Has anyone heard anything about how many of these laptops the Walmarts might be getting.

I've got images of that $100 iBook stampede from a couple of months ago.

Caveat emptor
Nov 22, 2005 11:27PM PST

You get what you pay for. And something that low tells me to beware. If they are selling these laptops at these cheap prices, why?
Is there going to be a glutt of laptops soon?
Is there something new comeing out soon that they don't want these around?
Something is up.. or going down.. depends on your point of view. I wish I had the words to describe my dubious thoughts. But I wouldn't trust Walmart, or ANY tech company.

Glut of processors
Nov 22, 2005 11:41PM PST

It has been fairly widely reported that there is a huge glut of processors right now and this is the primary reason for really low prices.

These are not going to be high end machines, but how many middle-low income people are going to be able to buy their children computers for Christmas this year because of the glut.

$378 laptop works for me!
Nov 24, 2005 1:15PM PST

Is this laptop a high end product? No. Will it last longer than the used laptop I bought <2mos ago for more? Probably, and it won't freeze on me, or shut down in the middle of a program, or jump to a different spot when I'm typing, or it will close cuz the latch actually works. (I really made a poor purchase, didn't I? I didn't know about this site then! I have a good PC for home, but for school, my professor teaches from PowerPoints and so it is great for labeling slides for anatomy at the same time he is lecturing. Cheaper than textbooks!
