32 vs 64 bit

Nov 10, 2004 2:24PM PST

just want to hear some reaction.
how soon will the change occur and become mainstream?
Is the benefit of going to 64 bit really that great?
For gamers of course the answer will be a definitive YES, but for most people current machines are more then they really need.
Should the goal now be to go slimmer and lighter as opposed to more power and faster proccessing? me thinks yes.

It's already here for me. Virtual Dub (which I use) is 64-bit and XP SP2 (which I use) has 64-bit extensions.

I'm not going back.

The new AMD 64-bit Athlon 64s are from their 90nm silicon and address your power issue.

Right now Dell refuses to sell any non-Intel systems but that may change.

The Athlon 64 is to come out with a low voltage version which may allow battery life and less weight and put it equal to the Pentium M Centrion for battery life and weight (and thickness) with the 64bit technology.

Right now only HP/Compaq and E-machines offer AMD Athlon 64bit notebooks in the mainstream.
