32" LCD TV with "true" picture-in-picture

Aug 2, 2009 10:49AM PDT

I have a 5 year old Sharp CRT TV with true PIP (2 tuners). Does anyone make an LCD (32") that has the same capability ?? You watch one program, and can see a second in a small screen in the corner, simply toggling between them when desired. I am confused by the claims of "?Picture-on-Picture" -- "Picture-and-Picture". Help !!!

hard to find

assuming you're in the US, with the switch to digital TV, it's hard to find a TV with two digital tuners because digital tuners are still fairly expensive (compared to analog ATSC tuners.) since DVRs are so popular now, "watching" two programs just isn't that popular an option any more. and the 32" size is being relegated to the lower end so dual tuners are being 'saved' for larger TVs which can justify the added expense.

TVs with PIP typically have one tuner and the PIP can display what's being tuned over-the-air and what's being piped into the PC via one of its multiple HDMI/s-video inputs.

OK __ so what about a DVR input ?

I have a DVR with a tuner -- if I pipe that into the TV as the second source, will I then have the "PIP" feature ? What I like to do is watch two news programs at once -- toggling when commercials come on .

My old TV had the secondaryh program in a small, moveable window, that you could toggle with the remote. When the new LCD sets say PIP, is that how they work ?
