I bought a Zune brand new July 08. Dec 08 it up and died wouldn't turn on, wouldn't link to software wouldn't respond to any of the online support tips and settings so I called....
They asked me for my serial number which I gave and was informed that my warranty was over. I argued that too and was told they would send a repair box out and to put all codes given to me as well as reciept for purchase in the box and mail it back. I did.
Today 1/12/09 I thought it odd I hadn't heard from them so I called. After the usual hold time and automated telephone run around I was able to talk to a live person. This is what I was told.
They recieved the Zune with the screen cracked, and as so I would not be getting repair I would be getting the cracked Zune back as my warranty is no good, abuse. I told them nothing was wrong with it except it wouldn't turn on and I would not complain about obvious damage we would have caused. To which I was asked if I had pictures of the Zune before I sent it for repair showing that the screen was not cracked?? I said of course I have some of it in its Christmas outfit and its fishing outfit and just relaxing on the couch!! No I am not in the habit of taking pictures of my mp3 players, I buy them in good faith and expect at least a year of trouble free use.
They said how they were very sorry about this but it is my tough luck and that they would be sending it back cracked with no repair.
As of this phone call today I have researched online about the Zune and now people are haveing issues with the screen on the 30g just cracking from the inside and that Microsoft is telling them the same thing, abuse, your tough luck.
So Microsoft has a few issues with this Zune and is in my opinion doing every thing they can to rip you off, with no intention of any of them ever haveing a reasonable case for repair, it will all be abuse. I am not at all happy about this and I also have an Xbox with the red ring of death that I knew long ago I would not get a repair for it either.
With this said I will not ever buy another microsoft product of any kind I have enough dead microsoft at my home all ready.
I am going to continue to find every where I can complain about this product to hopefully help anyone else looking for a mp3 player for them selves or like me, my child. Who has yet to hear his birthday gift he wanted so desperatly is eternally gone as well as the two hundered plus dollars it cost me....
DO NOT PURCHASE ZUNE
I own a very nice Samsung T10 that has worked flawlessly for me over 2 years now LOOK AT THEM!
