3 possibly connected issues

3 possibly connected issues:
(1) I keep getting an AVG Resident Shield dialog box/warning coming up telling me that the Java/ByteVerify virus has been found on my system & to run AVG to get rid of it, but when i do run AVG (AVG 6.0, free version) it doesn't find anything.

(2) Around the same time Ad-Aware (6.2.0.206, free version) found some "serious" spyware, such as keyloggers. They're now gone but I don't know if there is any connection to the Java/ByteVerify virus.

(3) I have several files with what look like randomly generated names & odd extensions (e.g. etdabpey.xgl, apzchmyu.eda, etc). I can't delete these as access is denied & when I shred then with SpyBot S&D they are instantly replaced with different files.

I don't know if this is what's causing the slow down i'm experiencing.......

Any advice?

TIA, JEff

Did you use the other tools like Adaware, Cwshredder, Stinger and Housecall so that you can toss the easy stuff out?

Next up, use HIJACKTHIS and see what's going on, but only after the easy tools.

I forgot to put this info in my first posting:

(a) the warning tells me the virus is found in file C:\DOCUME~1\JEFF~1.LAP\LOCALS~1\Temp\AAWTMP\C935695\21BADE\Counter.dass

(b) Win XPpro, SP1 & IE6 (6.0.2800.1106) on a HP pavilion zt1172 laptop.

Can't think what other info I might need to include.

Jeff
