3 Administrator Accounts?

by Harv / September 21, 2004 10:38 AM PDT

Listed under C:/Documents and Settings, I see three Administrator accounts:

Administrator 3.42MB
Administrator.JOHN - SJVLD1F8 3.88MB
Administrator.JOHN - SJVLD1F8.000 3.88MB

Is it okay to delete the last Administrator account (SJVLD1F8.000), which has the identical amount of data and content matter as the second Administrator account (SJVLD1F8), i.e., 3.88MB?

One last question, I opened the folder for both Administrator (3.42MB) and Administrator.JOHN - SJVLD1F8 (3.88MB), and there seems to be no difference in content, except that they have a different amount of data. Do I really need both folders or can I just delete the one with the lesser amount of data content, which would be the plain Administrator folder?

That's 3directories. The accounts are shown in the Control Panel, Users. Take time and don't LOCK YOURSELF OUT OF THE MACHINE by trying to reduce this OS to a single account. Some learn this lesson the hard way.

I went into User Accounts and it shows only one account and no other ones---JOHN, Computer Administrator. Guess Account is off. So, I'm puzzled why I would have 3 Administrator Accounts?

BTW, I deleted the third account SJVLD1F8.000, which is still in the Recycle Bin, and so far, I haven't had any problems running any of the applications or accessing my pc.

You've done it right.

From what I read, you're doing just fine.

Just take care you keep more than one admin capable account on NT/2000/XP/2003 so you don't lock yourself out.

What you are encountering is simply how the OS handles logins when for one reason or another the SID is different although the user name is the same (say from a different machine on the network).

The following links might (probably will Wink ) explain what can happen and why better although BE AWARE that the new accounts are not necessarilly indicative of any problem, just how authentication works.
