Question

2TB shrink to 32GB after downloading media creation tool

Good for the moment I didn't got clot or heart attack..
Well I have 2TB external hard drive where I saved all my documents, videos, photos, files, and just everything important to me in it. Recently I've been trying to download media creation tool for windows 10 (which I didn't require more than 30GB in worst case) however, since I have enough space on my (2TB external hard drive) which I used only 37GB of it so i decided to save this media creation tool on my external hard drive.
And when I started to download the software the download window didn't ask me to format the hard drive or anything else. it's just start to download normally.
Later, when the download finished I discovered that my external hard drive (name and size) has been changed to be ESD-USB (FHappy and the size from 2TB to 28.5GB free of 31.9GB.
And when I clicked to open it I couldn't see anything of my saved files (Doc,photos,videos..etc) except the media creation tool folders..!!
What does that mean please?
Does that mean I lost all my saved files and documents..etc and the new media creation tool replace it?
Even if we assume that, where the rest size of 2tb has been gone?
Please is there're anyone can help me here on how to find my missing files or how to recover it?
I don't mind deleting all the media creation tool which I can re-download it again but the most important thing now how to get back all my very valuable files.

Answer
Sadly true.

Next time use some USB memory stick. As to recovery try RECUVA next.

restore previous versions?

Ok, If we assume the Media Creation Tool deleted all my original files and replace it, why the capacity shrunk from 2TB to 32GB? where did the rest has gone I'm just wondering..?
If I delete the new folders of Media Creation Tool do you thing some good recovery software will help me to recover my missing files?
Also how to get back my external hard drive to capacity (2TB) like before?
*Now when I do right-click on my external hard drive there is options listed with some others, one of them (restore previous versions) do you think this will help me to get it back just like before?
Thank you.

DO NOT RESTORE CAPACITY YET.

DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING!

You are in a fight to copy out your files with RECUVA.

Later, after you get your files out, then you can wipe the drive and start over.

AND NO.. I do not suggest using restore previous versions. The ONLY thing to do now is see if RECUVA can find and copy out what you didn't backup.
