2nd modem won't connect

Nov 17, 2004 7:51AM PST

I just recently got a multilink ISP so that I could dial out w/ two modems on two phone lines.
When both modems are in, the first one connects, the second one doesn't.
when only one modem is in, it works fine (no matter which one it is)
They are both Broadxent (Creative) modems, I have posted to about 4 different forums and no 'good' response yet...
(including Creative)
Is there something I'm doing wrong or is there any 'hidden' settings I don't know about?
can anyone help???

Win XP Pro SP2
AMD Athlon XP 2600+
512 MB DDR
Via Chipset MotherBoard

Creative finally e-mailed me back saying:
With regards to the issue you are having, it is not recommended for you
to use two modems card on a computer system as this may cause conflict
to the system. Therefore, it will be advisable for you to use only one
modem card and see if the problem still persist.

But why have people always been able to do it and they're telling me not to??? I WANT TO...AND I WILL FIND A WAY TO...
anyone have any suggestions???

Are these both PCI modems?

If so, I've never seen multilink work with such. Only with dual modem cards, ISA modems and externals.

yes, both are PCI....so should I look for an external modem, would 1 PCI and 1 external work? or should I look around for an actual shotgun modem? do you know prices on them?? thank you for a 'GOOD' response though!!!!

Maybe.

I wish I did that more often. The "only" non-shotgun setups have been dual externals and dual ISA Hardware modems. I've never done anything that was not a "pair".

Why? Because we charged by the hour and its too expensive to try novel combos on the customers dime.

I bet you understand this system well now!

Its a shame someone didn't drop the hint about dual PCI modems before.

I'm sure it is possible, but the usual PCI modem is without DSP or Controller and even with "hardware" PCI modems I would not chance it. Of course if someone wants to try?

Again, cheers and have fun.
