2nd HDD doesn't show anywhere on laptop

Sep 22, 2010 1:36AM PDT

I have a problem with my ASUS G-51VX notebook. I installed a second HDD when I first got it last November, and everything was just fine until I recently re-installed Windows 7. My second HDD didn't show up in My Computer anymore. I checked device manager for it, and it doesn't show up there either. Naturally, it is also absent from Disk Management. The really weird part is that when I start my computer, the POST screen shows the HDD, connected right where it has always been. It even says it's SMART status is OK. The POST screen will then suddenly flick off and then back on, and when it comes back, the second HDD, and entire SATA Port it is connected to is gone.

Any insights, commentary would be greatly appreciated. I don't care about the data on it at this point, but I would like to get the drive itself in working order.

Thanks very much.
