Will RF make it through the step down transformer?
Apr 6, 2004 10:25PM PDT

"Question: How does PowerLine Communications function?
Answer:

PowerLine Communications works by transmitting high frequency data signals through the same power cable network used for carrying electricity power to household users. Such signal cannot pass through a transformer..."

There are other references to this about using the voltage convertors and how they interfere or block the RF network signal.

forget the 220 - is there a no plug wireless network system
Apr 7, 2004 12:53AM PDT

Most of the hardware on my computer doesn?t have a separate plug (with the exception of the printer and the speakers) so what I would like to know (for those of you who haven?t figured it out yet) is whether there is such a thing for a wireless network system so I won?t have to deal with a plug and obviously, not have a 220V problem.
Thanks for those who responded till now (I?m heavily considering the ?DHP-100 Express PowerNetwork Ethernet-to-Powerline Bridge? so thank you Bob)

Re:forget the 220 - is there a no plug wireless network system. = Isn't that called WiFi? (or 802.11...)

WiFi or 802.11g hardware is in full production and for most of the USA, is overflowing the product shelves. Setup is a little bit of work, but without knowing what you are trying to network, I'm unsure if a WAP or WAP/Router is needed.

Ok Bob, you apparently understand in this stuff so hers the bottom line___

I am trying to connect between a windows XP computer (that already has a 10/100mbps Ethernet Switch for networking computers) to windows XP laptop that?s 30-40 feet away. My house has 220V (as you already know) outlets, but what I?d really like is something that doesn?t need a wall.
pleas giv me somthing simple, thanks a ton Wink

Then try two USB WiFi-G "dongles." Look up ADHOC mode and at 40 feet, you may get better than 10 megabit.

Cost? I think I saw such at much less than 99 bucks.
