2009 Honda Civic Sedan MP3 capabilities question

Dec 28, 2008 10:36AM PST

I just bought one on Christmas Eve and it seems as though only an Apple Ipod can be used to plug in and play through the stereo. I plugged my MP3 player in, but no sound came out. The Honda's owner manual mentions Apple Ipods with iTunes, but Honda's website mentions MP3 players Help.

I am just guessing here.

Could it be that you can dock the ipod but can only connect an mp3 with a cable. It would not be very smart for Honda to support only ipod.

Update!

I am able to use a cable (that has male plugs on each end) to play the CDs that I downloaded onto my Blackberry Pearl phone (Verizon)through my Civic's stereo. I also tried my (generic) MP3 player again and if I twist the cable/plug it does work. It doesn't work well, but I'm going to go to Radio Shack or somewhere and buy a new cable. Wish me luck! I don't have an iPod and didn't have to buy one just to play music through my car's stereo. My 3 year old MP3 player works just fine and it's 5GB and still has room, so there's no reason to upgrade (in my opinion).

Should work fine, but up the volume

I have no problem using my MP3 player with my 2008 Civic using a male-to-male stereo cable and the stereo set to the aux input. I do have to turn the volume on the player and the stereo up quite a bit, as the player is designed to drive headphones or powered speakers, not a car stereo.
