2009 'B' Series slower than 2008 'A' Series. Why?

Mar 29, 2009 2:49PM PDT

Here's a post for the techs at Samsung to look at.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=16149068#post16149068

Now they DID get the unlocking of pq controls right in the new models, but why oh why is there even MORE input lag than the previous models? Isn't the goal to IMPROVE things like this rather than take a step backwards?

One thing gets fixed, while another gets broken. Makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever.

Broken?
Mar 29, 2009 4:03PM PDT

SF59,

You're talking about .031 of a second difference, correct? 3/100ths of a second?

I guess if it was something besides JUST a gaming monitor, you'd have a point. But it's a full functioning television, designed with processing to upconvert and process all sorts of picture signals.

Okay, a step backwards? Not if improved picture quality costs .031 seconds. This year, we're introducing a new technology that makes SD content look better, and that's probably the result. But "Broken"?

This poster, only a few posts down sums it up:

But, I will say this: I think some people (very few) ARE sensitive to 'input lag'. For them it's a legitimate concern. For the other 99% of gamers, it's not a big deal. It's just something to obsess about on the AVS forums.

sd content looks better on new "b" series ?
Mar 29, 2009 10:13PM PDT

I'm looking into purchasing another 32" samsung and i'm trying
to decide if i should consider the "b" series. I own a ln32a540
and a ln32a450 and want to find something close to these. 1 that
can handle the 1080p, with no snow, signal like my ln32a540 if i
go with a 720p. I may consider buying a 1080p like the ln32a550 or the ln32b530 depending if sd content will be better on the "b" series.
It looks like contrast is higher on ln32a550 and has a usb port.
Hard to decide.

mamontano,

The contrast ratio is higher on which models?

I have specs if you'd like to clarify.

ln32a550 or the ln32b530

I may have been looking at incorrect specs. before i spoke.
Do both have usb ports? Not real important for me though.
Contrast ratio is more important.

ln32a550 and ln32b530

Specs. are wrong on cnet. Went to samsung's website
and they list the ln32b530 at 60000:1 and the ln32a550
at 15000:1. My bad. Probably will go with new "b" series.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention..

mamotano,

We're a casual bunch here. Happy

I'll check out CNet and make sure our specs are up to par. If not, I'll get them corrected.

Yeah, not a huge deal

I'd gladly sacrifice 30ms in game mode on my 52A650 if they would unlock the sharpness setting. Set at 50, the picture is much too grainy for my liking. I have to assume that this is a pipe dream though, and we have seen the last firmware update for this set at 2007.0.
