Dave; It, almost, has had to jump timing. You are going to need to line up the timing marks to be sure.
Not sure if this is an interference motor? If it is, which I suspect, the pistons can hit and bend the valves when the timing belt or chain breaks or jumps a couple of teeth.
Good luck.

I have a 08 scion xd with the 1.8 dual vvti system, cranks no start..
Good fuel and spark
Compression tested bad
#1 had 30 psi
All others are 0 psi
Pulled valve cover and inspected timing CHAIN
everything looks intact and functioning.. all rockers seemed ok also..
Anyone have related actual experience repairing these motors?
Vvti system malfunction?
Please only experienced replies.. no guesses from no one with experience
Thanks..
