General discussion

2002 chevy venture

Mar 2, 2008 11:26PM PST

I was told the intake manifold gasket needs replacing.
The dealer said gm is aware of this problem, but the mileage
is 52,000 and i will have to pay.they want 600.00-800.00 dollars
for repair. Will it cause any problems if i wait till i can afford
repair?I just do not want to create more problems if i wait.
Thanks for any advice,Edward

Findout

Google and search engines are a powerful tool for any car recalls. Verify, what if any recalls are known. Checking that way may provide some recourse. ALLDATA may have info on this topic under its recall section.

problems with chevrolet venture 2002
Mar 5, 2008 5:29AM PST

I have had alot of problems with my 2002 Venture. I am not sure of the exact details and names of things, but I had to have head gaskets changed twice. First it cost about $1500 for having a GM garage fix something with head gaskets and the 2nd time I had a mechanic not affiliated with GM put in head gaskets for about $800. The first time when they changed the oil they found anti-freeze in it; the 2nd time it "overheated" in -10 degrees fahrenheit weather and couldn't be driven until it was fixed. I have also had the airconditioner go (about $700), and can't get the "Service engine light" to go off; something with the emissions (I couldn't get it inspected until it was over 3 months late trying to get the computer to clear off the message, and it came back on again.) When the wheel bearings started making a loud noise when driving, my friend who was changing them also found the back brakes were shot. I had heard there was some class action lawsuit filed concerning the head gaskets and Dexacool anti-freeze, but couldn't get enough info to be involved in it.

HAVE IT CHECKED
Mar 5, 2008 11:28PM PST

I checked out TSBs and recalls for the '02 Venture. They're rediculous. Call a lawyer about the engine problems, you'll get your money back if the class-action has gone through.

The recalls are serious and vary by the type of Venture you own. But the first one up was about the airbag which has faulty welds.
Here's the snippit from edmonds.com
"PIECES OF THE INFLATOR COULD STRIKE AND INJURE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS AND THE AIR BAG CUSHION WOULD NOT INFLATE FULLY, REDUCING THE CAPABILITY OF THE BAG TO PROTECT THE DRIVER."

There are also 149 TSBs on the venture. That's just what mechanics report as common problems on edmunds.com, things that are known deficiencies but Chevy has decided not to do recalls.

For your families' and your own safety, check this site and have the van checked over.

Another reason not to buy GM

Typical GM. And they keep telling us in their advertising that their new products are wonderful and will last a million miles. Ha!
