2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Died

Nov 8, 2008 2:02AM PST

I recently put a rebuilt motor in my 2001 Jeep Grande Cherokee. It was running fine for about 1,000 miles, then wacky electrical things started to happen. The security alarm would sound for no reason. The horn would beep short beeps (shorter than the alarm horn sound). The dash lights would flicker. Then finally it died. The remote won't open the locks, the manual unlock button won't unlock the locks, no interior lights, no nothing. Fortunately the driver's door lock is not locking so I can get into the Jeep. Putting the key in the ignition - NOTHING. It's like it's dead. We tried to jump start it - NOTHING. What could be wrong? Where do I begin checking? The fuses "look" okay. I've read that I can connect my laptop to the Jeep somewhere to see if there are any "codes?" How do you do that?
