Clarification Request
One question.

While I doubt a step by step is out there, my question is did you install the helper apps? Drivers are one thing but today's laptops often need helper apps to turn on the WiFi.

And NO, there is NO generic app/driver to do this AFAIK. I continue to use the maker's app to do this. As this is specific to each model, you and I know that and know there is no such app.

AGAIN, you can install all the correct drivers but if you forget the app to turn on the WiFi, no WiFi.

Answer
There's a networking and wireless forum in cnet

and much more help there than here. Without looking at this device, it seems the step-by-step process starts with checking device manager to see if the wifi module is detected and functioning. From what you wrote, those drivers failed. I doubt the wifi device is an HP but might be such as broadcom, ralink, etc.the search can get complicated but sometimes you can find drivers by determining that chipset. Setting up wifi on a router/AP would generally require a wired connection for security reasons so, once the laptops wifi is functioning and the router is configured, you have the laptop search for that network. Many laptops do or did have the ability to turn off wifi with some switch. Being able to do this is useful when using a wired connection and prevents the laptop from wasting time trying to connect to a wireless network. In any event, take the problem to the proper forum here, give as much detail as possible, and hope for the best.
